Roth, Richard
Dr. Richard Roth is an Assistant Professor and Extension Soil fertility Specialist at Iowa State University. He joined the Department of Agronomy and at Iowa State in September 2023. His primary responsibilities are nitrogen and sulfur management. Dr. Roth’s research and extension work focuses on engineering and optimizing nitrogen and sulfur management strategies to improve the efficiency and environmental sustainability of cropping systems in the Midwest. He is dedicated to enhancing the agronomic, economic, and environmental performance of these systems.

Yakubu, Adam
Adam Yakubu is a Ph.D. graduate research assistant in Soil Science, working with Dr. Richard Roth in the Department of Agronomy at Iowa State University. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Ghana, where he developed a passion for improving soil health in crop production systems. Before joining Iowa State, Adam collaborated with international scientists on soil fertility and water management research projects in Ghana. He has published research in renowned journals, including Agronomy Journal, Catena, and the Soil Science Society of America Journal. At Iowa State, Adam’s research focuses on nitrogen and sulfur cycling in Midwestern corn and soybean systems. Using stable isotopes (³⁴S and ¹⁵N), he evaluates fertilizer recovery and nutrient release from winter-hardy legume cover crops to improve sustainable nutrient management. His career goal is to apply soil science innovations to help farmers in Iowa, mid-west region, and beyond to optimize nutrient management, improve soil health, enhance crop yield, and reduce environmental impact. Beyond research, Adam enjoys engaging in conversations about science and culture. He also has a passion for country music and loves exploring diverse landscapes as a way of appreciating nature’s beauty.

Subora, Adam
I am a Graduate Research Assistant at Iowa State University studying Soil Science under Dr. Bradley Miller in the Geospatial Laboratory for Soil Informatics. I am pursuing a Master’s degree with focus on detecting elevation change using LiDAR derived Digital Elevation Models. While at Iowa State, I have enjoyed being the soil judging team’s assistant coach and working under several TA roles. Previously, I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Science from Michigan State University in 2023, and worked as a Geospatial Technician at RS&GIS. My research interests include the further integration of Soil Science with modern GIS platforms, pedology, and geomorphology.
Originally, I am from Flint, Michigan, but have spent time in Lansing, Michigan as well as Peoria, Illinois. In my free time, I enjoy playing the piano, “recreational cartography”, and playing board games with my friends.
