About

Adam Yakubu is a Ph.D. graduate research assistant in Soil Science, working with Dr. Richard Roth in the Department of Agronomy at Iowa State University. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Ghana, where he developed a passion for improving soil health in crop production systems. Before joining Iowa State, Adam collaborated with international scientists on soil fertility and water management research projects in Ghana. He has published research in renowned journals, including Agronomy Journal, Catena, and the Soil Science Society of America Journal. At Iowa State, Adam’s research focuses on nitrogen and sulfur cycling in Midwestern corn and soybean systems. Using stable isotopes (³⁴S and ¹⁵N), he evaluates fertilizer recovery and nutrient release from winter-hardy legume cover crops to improve sustainable nutrient management. His career goal is to apply soil science innovations to help farmers in Iowa, mid-west region, and beyond to optimize nutrient management, improve soil health, enhance crop yield, and reduce environmental impact. Beyond research, Adam enjoys engaging in conversations about science and culture. He also has a passion for country music and loves exploring diverse landscapes as a way of appreciating nature’s beauty.
